Fully Managed Cloud Security Service Delivered as a Part of Dimension Data Suite of Managed Security Services; Extends Web Security Controls to the Cloud
SYDNEY Australia, and SUNNYVALE, Calif., 3 May 2016 – Blue Coat Inc, and Dimension Data, today announced the first rollout of a global managed cloud web security service (WebSaaS) offering in Australia. This follows last year’s announcement that the two companies had signed a worldwide agreement that combines Blue Coat’s award-winning cloud-generation security solutions with Dimension Data’s global managed security services portfolio. After the initial Australian rollout, the global managed cloud web security service offering is expected to be available in Europe, Asia, the US, and the Middle East and Africa over the coming months.
The growth of BYOD, mobility and the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought forth an explosion of connected devices exposing a wide range of unprotected environments like never before, while the use of cloud applications and services such as Microsoft Office365 and Salesforce.com places the most critical corporate data assets into cloud environments. In order to protect enterprises from this expanded threat profile, WebSaaS screens an organisation’s inbound and outbound web traffic and provides real-time protection against viruses, malware and compromised web sites by identifying and blocking malicious materials.
As a managed service, WebSaaS not only enables organisations to easily extend their defences to protect employee devices, regardless of their location, but it allows organisations to take advantage of Dimension Data’s professional expertise and Blue Coat’s market-leading technology, freeing up security personnel to deliver more strategic value to the business, rather than focusing on day-to-day operations.
Matthew Gyde, Dimension Data’s Group Executive – Security, said Australia was chosen as the first country to receive the service as the nation was not only an early adopter of cloud services, but its enterprises faced a well-documented cyber security talent shortage which meant many organisations struggled to adequately defend themselves.
“Australia’s population, and its isolation, means there's only a limited number of very skilled resources available in the market and the demand for security expertise is only increasing while business models are adapting to the digital economy,” Gyde said. “In the increasingly connected world of social media, mobility, and cloud, the need for better intelligence and insight has never been greater as the traditional ‘perimeter’ as we knew it no longer exists. Today, enterprises must be able to defend an employee, wherever they and their internet-connected devices go.”
Dimension Data’s WebSaaS combines Blue Coat’s Cloud Generation Security technologies with enterprise-class global cloud infrastructure, providing a comprehensive approach to cloud security adoption by leveraging both on-premise and cloud services. The new solution provides real-time protection against advanced threats while collecting contextual threat intelligence from more than 15,000 enterprises worldwide, bolstering defences through the identification of usage patterns and anomalies.
“Together with Dimension Data, we’re providing customers a way to safely and easily transition to the cloud when the needs arise,” said Andrew Littleproud, vice president of Asia Pacific, Blue Coat. “We are focused on enabling our customers to maintain visibility and control over their users and data across all devices, networks and applications while ensuring a robust security posture.”
